Specialist Subjects: Computational modelling of Multiphysics processes on high performance computing systems
My research interests are in the issues associated with the computational modelling of complex processes involving the interaction of physical phenomena (multi-physics) at a range of scales (multi-scale). Hence my research programme involves:
- The development of numerical procedures and software tools to capture interactions amongst phenomena over varying time and length scales
- Since these problems are usually computationally very challenging then I am also involved in the development and tools for enabling the scalable parallel solution of large scale problems
- The exploitation of our Groups simulation tools in the modelling of a wide range of complex processes, including currently
- multi-phase flows in reactive porous media
- modelling of novel casting processes
- autogenous comminution in mills
- turbine design and performance for both marine and wind applications
- parachute modelling
- seal design
- smoke control in controlling fire spread
- thermal protection of space vehicles on re-entry into the earth's atmosphere
- heart pump support device design
