Specialist Subjects: Quantum Field Theory and String Theory

My research is mostly within string theory. I am interested in understanding how string dynamics can lead to insights into the physics of quantum field theories and quantum gravity. The combination of these two seemingly disparate aspects of string theory has led to a crucial correspondence between gauge theories and gravity. I have been working on different aspects of this correspondence. In addition, I am interested in understanding string dynamics in time-dependent/cosmological spacetimes. More recently, I have been interested in topological string theories, which serve as good toy models of string theories which are complicated enough to have interesting physics yet are simple enough to be tractable.
